Wastewater rates to increase by $4.50 per month
On July 25, the City Council discussed results of a water and wastewater rate study conducted by NewGen Strategies and Solutions evaluating the city’s utility revenue for the next five years. Starting October 1, the average wastewater customer will see an increase of $4.50 on monthly bills.
Pflugerville’s population growth requires expansion of the city wastewater plant capacity and water system, and necessitates the city’s first water rate increase since 2005. The average wastewater customer using 5000 gallons, would see a monthly increase from $25.75 to $30.25 in fiscal year 2018.
“The rate increase is an investment in the sustainability and effectiveness of the wastewater system,” Assistant City Manager Lauri Gillam said. “With construction of a new wastewater treatment plant needed to keep up with demand and city growth, the rate increase provides the city’s needed capacity for bond funding for wastewater projects."
The city has identified $21 million in water capital projects and $69 million in proposed wastewater projects needed for sustainability of the city’s wastewater system. The new rates go into effect October 1, 2017.
